September 9 through September 16 was a mercifully slow week for wolf killings in Idaho. The number jumped from 10 last week to 14 total dead this week.

The 165 wolf killing quota has been satisfied by a couple more and has 158 remaining for the five out of 13 zones which actually have limits.

Sawtooth appears to represent the most active area for hunters with three wolves dying in that zone. Cryco, the escaped arctic wolf from Wolf People is in the Panhandle zone, which has no limits and two dead wolves so far. We are crossing our fingers for his safety.

Montana’s total this week quadrupled. Mercifully, Montana’s kill number was at one, so that means three more died in the last seven days.

One more wolf died in the large killing unit 390, with a subunit of that large zone accounting for one more. Killing unit 390’s quota is now down to one remaining.
