For the second time in six months, federal authorities are investigating the suspected shooting death of a red wolf, a species that once teetered on the brink of extinction and now wages its fight for survival exclusively in eastern North Carolina’s wilderness.

A breeding pair of the highly endangered wolves are settling in to their new homes at the Tacoma Zoo.

The Charlotte Observer published a well written article regarding the continued struggles of the extremely rare red wolf.

Six red wolf pups were born in captivity in the middle of April and two of those wolf pups were picked to head out to North Carolina to become foster pups of a wild wolf mom.

Two critically endangered red wolves were found dead in late April in North Carolina. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a reward to find answers.

Jason Parent acknowledges the success of the red wolf reintroduction, but also notes the journey is not done, and the challenges are not completely overcome.
