Eric Betz, writing for the Arizona Daily Sun, explores the possibility of reintroducing the Mexican gray wolves into the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

A rare Mexican gray wolf, who was intentionally released from her enclosure at the Wildlife Science Center in Minnesota, was captured and safely returned home Thursday after being on the run for three days.

Jess Edberg, from the International Wolf Center, wrote an article about Mexico’s plans to reintroduce five wolves following a devastating year where America’s population declined by 20 percent.

Disappointment and frustration combined following the release of numbers which suggest that there are now only 42 – down 10 from last year’s numbers – Mexican Gray Wolves wild in Arizona and New Mexico after another rough year for the troubled reintroduction program.

The Center for Biological Diversity has filed a law suit which they hope will remove bureaucratic red tape which has been hampering the Mexican Gray Wolf recovery project.

The International Wolf Center (www.wolf.org) posted the following summary of the status of the Mexican Wolf Reintroduction Project.

The Center for Biological Diversity served notice of a lawsuit – targeting the failure of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to respond to a petition - with a filing on Friday, November 20.

It’s Mexican gray wolf Friday on HOWLColorado … apparantly. The Southwest Environmental Center held contests for students – the winners will be announced Saturday, November 21.
