(Reuters) – The state of Idaho has authorized sheriff’s deputies in a tiny mountain town to kill wolves blamed for preying on pets and elk, a spokesman for the state fish and game department said on Tuesday.

 CHESTER — Five-year-old Angeline Moore heard the stories of Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs before her Saturday visit to the Chester Library — where she came face to face with a live wolf.

 The Chattanooga Nature Center is home to two new babies, a pair of female red wolves.

 Hunters would be able to remove 220 gray wolves from Montana’s landscape this fall under a tentative quota and seasons adopted Thursday by the state Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission.

 Michigan republican representative, Candice Miller, wants wolf protections removed in 48 states.

 The Arizona Fish and Game Department released their monthly Mexican gray wolf update for April.

 WASHINGTON (Courthouse News) – Just weeks after the U.S. Congress’ unprecedented move to strip gray wolves of their Endangered Species Act protection in five states, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed to delist the Minnesota population of gray wolves.

 When Interior Secretary Ken Salazar took a formal step this week to remove wolves from the endangered species list — 16 years after they were reintroduced to central Idaho and Yellowstone National Park — he also removed federal protection for wolves in Washington.

 Thursday’s announcement that gray wolves are back under state management in Montana and Idaho also included a warning: The federal government is watching.
