CHEYENNE — After years of fighting, the state of Wyoming and the federal government have reached an agreement to remove the state’s roughly 340 wolves from the endangered species list and put them under state control.

The Department of the Interior has released a press release outlining the details of the agreement which would give Wyoming management of the state’s wolves.

 While the news of the wolf getting to Colorado is a few years old, this story expands on the discovery and shows that scientists have underestimated the range of animals they have reintroduced.

 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Now that state game officials have cleared the way for trapping to resume in southwestern New Mexico, environmentalists are renewing their calling for the federal government to do more to protect the Mexican gray wolf in the Southwest.

 Jessica Robinson wrote this article with a dubious slant and a touch of melodrama at the beginning, but it does an efficient job of outlining the approved plan, and how the traps work.  Wolves in Idaho are in trouble.

 CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Associated Press) — Wyoming officials say they aren’t getting behind a last-minute effort by Teton County to prevent wolves from being shot on sight there, saying they’ve all but reached a deal with the Interior Department on a plan to remove wolves in Wyoming from endangered species protection.

Missoula, Mont. (Reuters) - Environmentalists went to federal court on Tuesday seeking to restore endangered species safeguards for some 1,200 gray wolves in Montana and Idaho removed from protection by an unprecedented act of Congress.

France (The Independent) - The wolf, pursuing its lightning reconquest of France, has reached the Vosges Mountains on the Alsace-Lorraine border for the first time in 80 years.

Helena, Mont. (Helena Independent Record) – Carolyn Sime, a pioneer in wolf management in Montana, is leaving her job with Fish, Wildlife and Parks in order to pursue a law degree.
