Kim Marquis - writing for Juneauempire.com - asks a question many locals are asking about their famed celebrity wolf – Romeo.

Three groups, including Greenpeace, have filed suit against the US Forest Service to stop a project which would impact over 3,000 acres of land and log over 70 million board feet of timber, as well as introduce miles of new roads into a delicate ecosystem, which is home to some very rare wolves. 

After a year which was marked by a number of steps backwards for America’s wolves, wolf advocates are preparing for another year of fights – and do so by asking for last minute donations.

Maria Ferguson, of the Wolf Howl Animal Preserve, has been involved with an initiative which could place orphaned wolf pups in Alaska at authorized, approved sanctuaries around the country. 

The Associated Press reports that Alaska is looking to remove protection for polar bears, as the designation as a threatened species endangers the state’s petroleum development.

The organization which funded Dr. Haber’s work remember him and talk about the plans for the future.

Rodger Schlickeisen, president of Defenders of Wildlife, made a statement regarding the untimely death of Gordon Haber.
