Wandering wolf back in California

Oregon’s traveling canine, OR7, is back in California according to intermittent satellite tracking information. According to the latest post on californiagraywolf.wordpress.com:

July 17-18, 2012: While we still have not been receiving consistent satellite readings, wolf OR7′s travels over the last day indicate that he turned to the southwest from northwestern Plumas County and headed back to northeastern Butte County. His last satellite reading shows him in northeastern Butte County.

OR7 has been “on the road” ever since leaving his Oregon pack to seek out a mate.

Sadly for the love-seeking wolf, he is the first wolf to head so far south on the west coast since wolves were wiped out by hunters in the first part of the 20th century. His chances of success in his endeavor has not seemingly doused his spirits however.

OR7 has been seen hanging out with Coyotes and seems happy chilling out in Northern California.
