Montana FWP to decide whether to extend wolf hunt

The Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks commission is meeting today and tomorrow  to consider extending the wolf hunt to the end of January. They will also be deciding whether to allow hunters to shoot wolves accused of preying on livestock, instead of relying on state and federal officials.

The state is failing to come close to their 220-wolf quota – 25 percent of the state’s wolf population – and they are likely to extend the hunting season in an attempt to give hunters more time to achieve that gruesome goal.

Additional issues for discussion include quotas and hunting season dates for 2012.
