As is often the case with stories about wolves out of Russia, this story is unbelievable.

Siberian authorities believe there is a wolf pack of 400 animals travelling through the Verhnoyarsky region, and their prey of choice has been horses. Though they say that locals are afraid for their lives.

It is highly unusual for such a large collection of animals to gather. And stranger still is the reports from various news sources that the usual food source for these wolves – rabbits? – have been declining, and that it’s unusual for wolves to hunt large animals like horses and deer. Must be quite different than the wolves in North America.

It’s a strange situation, with a brutal outcome with authorities setting a bounty on each wolf pelt of an approximate value of $330.
