The AP article quoted Schweitzer:

“I was ready to go forward with a hunt in January of 170-something wolves,” he said. “But the governors, we couldn’t come to a consensus with the secretary of Interior about a possible legislative fix.”

In typical petty politicking, Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal reportedly didn’t confirm the contents of the call, instead maintaining interstate stress, saying “That’s Brian’s perspective.” Whereas “Butch” Otter simply didn’t return calls from the AP.
