The Big Bad Wolf Makes Good

Excellent editorial that attempts to refocus away from political grandstanding and back on to the effect of wolves on their surrounding ecosystem.

Jim Beers, a well known anti-wolf and anti-government spokesperson, published another article, this time attempting to explain the concerns of unknown “locals” about conspiratorial claims of wolf-related wrong-doings. This one appeared in Agweek.

National Geographic Wild’s show Wild Expedition will be airing the second episode of their new season, and it’s focus will be on gray wolves.

In an attempt to get around the relisting of wolves in the states of Montana and Idaho, both are attempting to get approval for a so-called “conservation hunt” from the federal government.

Ralph Maughan and Ken Cole of the active wildlife blog, wolves.wordpress.com, believe that the state of Idaho doesn’t have any legal right at this time to manage the wolves in their states as an agreement to allow them to do so has long since expired.

An article which appeared on the ScienceInsider Web site challenges the belief that a wolf population can survive massive losses to hunting without long-term harm to their numbers.

When he found out she owned two dogs, Bozeman Mayor Jeff Krauss says, he knew that Waded Cruzado would fit in as president at Montana State University.

“This is one crazy dog town,” Krauss joked at Cruzado’s inauguration this month.

Hints of pending federal wolf legislation came to fruition on Wednesday, when Sens. Mike Crapo and Jim Risch, both R-Idaho, introduced a bill that would exclude wolves in Idaho from the Endangered Species Act.

Editorial: Pro-wolf groups blew it

Bill Schneider wrote the following editorial on New West’s Web site.

Idaho County, in Idaho not surprisingly, has requested that Governor “Butch” Otter declare an ongoing disaster for the county – a move which would allow people to shoot any wolf on sight.
