Dr. Way, who posts comments to the well-respected Ralph Maughan blog, allowed Mr. Maughan to publish a draft of the paper.

The research focused on the DNA make up of the eastern coyotes. The researchers sought clues as to the reasons for the variations which were observed between the eastern coyotes and the western coyotes.

The results suggested that what we know as eastern coyotes should actually be referred to as “coywolfs” as they found evidence of wolf DNA.
